Batman has arrived in Salem!

Scotty Spears was a normal teenager till everyone found out he was secretly Batman. Spears is a 17-year-old junior at Salem High School and does a lot more than just Batman, he does many cosplays like Michael Myers, Deadpool, Spiderman, Ghost from Call of Duty and many more.

In an early age, Spears liked watching Batman, as he never understood until later on when he got older, that Batman was a character. He started making costumes in the beginning of 2021 as ideas came to him when he made his first springtrap mask from Five Nights at Freddy’s. It was made out of cardboard.

Spears makes almost all of his own cosplay, but he buys suits for Spiderman, Deadpool, and other bigger cosplays people like. When he gets these suits, he adds and makes his own props for almost each costume.

“The main thing I do with costumes is I would buy something like thrift cloth or get a cheap costume on eBay or express and I would make my own way of fixing it,” Spears said. “For example I bought a cheap Deadpool suit like a spandex. It doesn’t have any real weapons on it, it doesn’t have any real accessories that aren’t printed on so I would make my own accessories, my own belt, my own swords, make my own guns for it, as well as all the props for it.”

Spears has a strong passion for making his cosplays, spending one day making each costume. He waits for a perfect day when he’s off work and takes his time to make the costume and finish it on the same day. Spears can spend up to five hours at a time making his props or  Cosplay.

Spears said he sees the best parts, as he gets to see kids’ faces when he cosplayes his characters and makes it fun for everyone. He hopes to see this become a side passion job when he gets older, but for now, he performs in his costume at local parties.
